I don’t run. I shoot flaming daggers out of my eyes when I see the 13.1 or 26.2 stickers on the backs of trendy crossover SUVs. In fact, I have toyed with the idea of placing a 0.0 sticker on mine.
I never understood how my favorite place on earth, Castaway Cay, could host almost-daily 5K fun runs. It boggled my mind. Until yesterday. *This post contains affiliate links.*

What is the Castaway Cay 5K
First – and this is important – resist the urge to pronounce it the way it looks simply because it rhymes. Remember Cay = Key.
Secondly – The Castaway Cay 5k is not a race. At least not really. It is a fun run.
Lastly – It is FREEEEEEE! And so is the bling. (Though in true Disney fashion, there is plenty of CC5K merchandise on the island.)
So, yeah, I’m Doing a 5K (or two or three)
Many of y’all know that I. Don’t. Run. But…
I have been presented with the opportunity to do a 5K to benefit a special cause later this year (more on that when I have details). Ask anyone, I have maintained my steadfast resistance to the runDisney movement from the beginning, but this was not the type of event I would consider saying No to… so, I will walk, run or crawl over the finish line of my first 5K in the coming months.
Additionally – drum roll – I am going on a Castaway Cay Double Dip cruise later this year! This means I have two opportunities to do my least favorite activity on my most favorite island.
How to Sign Up For and Run the Castaway Cay 5K
You sign up on board. You don’t register prior to sailing. The Guest Services desk will be able to assist you, or check your Personal Navigator for dedicated times to sign up. A Crew Member will give you meeting time and location (usually an onboard lounge) for the race day meeting.
During the pre-run meeting, you will be given your all-important race bib. A Crew Member will also go over basic participant instructions and course information. Be sure to have you Key to the World Card and state-issued ID with you because you will be led, as a group, off the ship, and taken to the Starting Line! Note: The CC5K is for guests ages 12 and up only.
So it’s time to train. Jeff Galloway is the official trainer of all the runDisney events. He has training guides for every level of runner, which means he has a guide for me.
I’m going to give The Run Walk Run Method a try. I know that I can walk from sunup to sundown as long as I am at a Disney park, so it time I begin to walk around my own neighborhood. Wish me luck. I’ll need it.
