If you’re planning a cruise on Disney Cruise Line and want to know all about the ships, ports of call and planning tips and tricks, this is the site for you. If you want to plan your first Disney cruise and have no idea where to start, you’re also in the right place.
Here’s what I have learned:
- most guests don’t plan effectively ahead of time and they end up missing out and wasting a lot of time during their trip
- all of the magical things you may have dreamt about (like meeting princesses in the beautiful Atrium Lobby) aren’t possible unless you plan
DCL Prep School was created to share planning tips and cruising tricks to make your next voyage the magical cruise of your dreams.

What other people say…
~ “Thank you so much for the prompt response, I feel like I have a better understanding now! I really wasn’t leaning towards any ship but the Wonder got so many great reviews and I like the idea of it being a smaller ship especially for our first cruise. I was also excited to see that it was getting a makeover before we sail.” ~ Stephanie in Virginia
~ “This is amazing thank you. Just when you think you all couldn’t get any more amazing there is going be another helpful page. I have no idea to start with cruises and the more I was reading the more questions I had.” ~Adele in Scotland
~ ” I want to thank for your response and all of the great advice! I called the Disney Dream concierge and they were able to book a cabana for us on Castaway Cay! Also they secured our Atlantis water park adventure at Nassau AND (drum roll) they gave us assigned times to meet the Disney Princesses and the Frozen Characters!!! …Well… I’m feeling very grateful and spoiled… ” ~ Audrey in CA
About Melanie Clatfelter
Melanie is the inaugural editor of DCL Prep School. Melanie grew up in Florida, where making day trips to Walt Disney World was a way of life. Her love of Disney travel has carried from the parks to Disney Cruise Line.
Mel’s approach to planning is focused on learning about what each ship and port of call has to offer. This allows guests to plan a few activities each day while allowing plenty of time for relaxing and spontaneous magic.
She and her husband, U.S. Navy veteran, Brian, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this summer, and have raised three Disney kids who love cruising with Disney all over the world. Her favorite ship is the Disney Magic, while the kids love the technology and kids-only clubs on the Fantasy.
