Step 6: Add Extra Magic

Step 6You’ve made it through steps 1-5. The tough decisions have been made. Now it’s time to plan those extra magical moments which make each DCL voyage so special.

Fish Exchange Group

The Fish Exchange is a tradition only found on Disney Cruise Line. It is a gift exchange organized by guests well in advance of your sailing. (Fish Exchanges are not officially affiliated with DCL. This is a guest-led activity. Any problems must be sorted within the group.)

To join a Fish Exchange group you need to find the cruising group for your sailing. Facebook and DISBoards are two places to look.

The concept is simple. Guests agree to give small gifts to those in their dedicated Fish Exchange group. The gifts are delivered to a Fish Extender which hangs outside your stateroom. Fish Extenders have pockets or pouches where the gifts can be placed.

While it is fun, it requires pre-planning and expense. Be sure you are committed to the group when you sign up. Our family has participated in 3 Fish Exchanges, and my kids love it!

Pirates in the Caribbean

Whether your cruise takes you to the Caribbean or any other sea, every cruise with Disney Cruise Line features a Pirates in the Caribbean party. Alaskan, Pacific and European sailings get in the spirit.

Look for special menus, activities, deck parties and even fireworks (when allowed by maritime law).

Costumes, though not required, are recommended for pirates of all ages. You will see guests dressed as captains, sailors and even Lost Boys. Let your imagination go wild.

Royal Court Royal Tea

A royal tea party awaits young princes and princesses on the Disney Fantasy. At the Royal Court Royal Tea Party your child is immersed in Disney’s classic storytelling. They will spend quality time with the princesses and receive gifts unique to this experience. The Royal Court Royal Tea requires advance registration and does cost an additional fee.
